Matthew 6:13

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
(NIV)

Do we actually have to pray to God that He would not lead us into temptation? It would sure seem that way. But I think that this is more like the prayer for the daily bread. God is going to do these things, but in order to experience the working of God, we need to ask for these things.

I don't believe that God is going to ever lead us into temptation, in another place in the Bible, it says that God cannot tempt anyone with evil. So this is simply for our benefit.

Bottom line, this is the model for prayer, and Christ felt like this was important enough to put it in there, we should follow this example.

    We like the idea of being delivered from the evil one...the devil. We, as Christians, would never say we want anything to do with the devil, right? But do we really desire to be delivered from our temptations? Sound confusing? Well, being delivered might require 'change' on our part as God convicts us about what we are doing, where we are going, what we are watching, who we are with, etc. When we pray for deliverance, are we also asking God to help us be pure? In today's realm of Christianity, do we really want purity? Something to think about!

    That's a really good thought..I have been talking to several of my friends about the idea of how we live our lives and I think this goes along with it..Perhaps Christ put this in there because He knew we would be tempted to not want to be delievered..sometimes it's so easy to want or to actually give in to temptation..

Galatians 5:25

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Wow, this is a really cool verse. Once again, there is a phrase in here that I have never noticed before. The part that says, "...let us keep in step..." It makes me think of a dance. The spirit leads, and I stay in step. When that happens, it is beautiful.

Psalm 136:4

to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. (NIV) If this verse said, "to him who does great wonders..." it would still be a great verse. We could talk about all of the wonders that God does. Everything from the rings of Saturn and the Sombrero Galaxy to the forming of a child inside its mothers womb or even how electrons are spinning around the atoms and not flying off. We could talk about all of those things and marvel at His wonders. But get this, all of the great wonders are His! He doesn't just get credit for great wonders, He gets credit for all of them, because the verse says, "to him who alone does great wonders..." God has no counterpart. He has no arch-rival. There is none like Him, and He is the only one who is doing the wonderful stuff! He is the changer of hearts and lives. He is the redeemer. He is the savior. He is the God who hears and the God who sees. And the most wonderful of all, His love endures Forever!
